So a while ago i did my own take on DIY Glitter Heels, which were my own version of Louboutins, except sparkly and $10. I had a pair on Nine West heels in beige that i got about 3 years ago that were all kinds of screwed up. The heels had scratches and rips and stains, it was just a mess. I started to wonder how i even walked out of the house in them. Naturally, my solution was glitter but while browsing on pinterest i decided to use rhinestones instead. So here is my DIY Rhinestone Heels tutorial.
Materials
- Heels (Sidenote: i didn't use like a fabric type shoe, mine were made out of that faux plastic type material that i don't know the name of, but with superglue it should work on any type of shoe) - Superglue - Tweezers - Rhinestones (I got mine off of amazon because they had good reviews and looked really sparkly in the picture, so naturally i had to get them) **I bought 2 orders of them (they come 400 a pop) and had enough plus a bit left over |
How To
So i laid out some of the stones of a flat surface where i could see them all and i was really impressed with them. They ha so many different sizes, which i feel makes this look a bit better than all one size, and they had a really nice color and shimmer to them. **I did no prep on the shoe before i started, i just started glueing I started by filing up any holes that happened to be in the heels. Then i started from the base and made my way up along the side and the whole perimeter of the heel portion that i wanted to rhinestones to adhere to. |
Once i got the whole outline done i started filling in different spots and tried to fill in the rest of the heel. I will say that you need a lot of patience because, even though you need to work fast because the glue dries quickly, the gems are really small and it takes a bit of time to complete (also my heels were 6 inches, so i had more room to cover). **Try putting the glue on the shoe instead of the gem and in a large radius, so that you can cover more of the shoe and get it done faster. Also because the stones are really small and you don't want to hurt your eyes. |
And you're done!
So i love how they turned out and to be honest it was actually kind of calming to do (aside from the fact that One Tree Hill got me feeling some way). It took a while but i had nothing else to do so i didn't mind. I only went up (if you can see in the pictures above) to the seam line of the heel, but you could also do something like this:
